Experience the dynamic world of acro through a unique exploration of physical connection with Kadir at Acro at The Center SF. The term “acro,” derived from the Greek word akros, meaning “extremities,” refers to the parts of our body we use to engage with the world around us.

In this weekly gathering, participants will delve into a playful investigation of physics using their extremities. Through a variety of props such as balls, sticks, and ropes, attendees will explore concepts of balance, force, and momentum. This session aims to create a new, relatable acro vocabulary that makes the practice accessible to everyone.

Imagine reinterpreting “foot to foot” not merely as one foot touching another, but as bodies stacked vertically and aligned in creative ways. This gathering invites participants to go beyond traditional acroyoga terminology and break free from rigid poses and patterns. It’s an opportunity to build an acro practice that is inclusive, where a shared vocabulary rooted in physics enhances movement and connects diverse bodies in extraordinary ways.

During the class, participants will:

  • Share their movement experiences during “movement potluck” style warm-ups
  • Observe how others translate these movements into their own bodies through playful exploration
  • Engage in choreographed exercises to showcase and celebrate the innovative acro language created collectively
  • Conclude with a partner massage, bringing the energy and excitement of the session back to the ground

This event seamlessly transitions into the subsequent Acro Explorations, with each session standing alone or offering the option to attend both. Participants are encouraged to join solo, with a partner, or in a group, and to freely switch partners or form new groups during the class.

Whether new to acro or experienced, this session offers a fresh perspective on acro practice, fostering creativity and connection in a supportive environment.
