The human body naturally vibrates with sound, and within it lie various energy centers known as chakras. These chakras correspond to both physical and psychological systems, but they can sometimes become blocked, stagnant, overactive, or misaligned. Sound healing offers a powerful way to retune the body’s cells, restore balance to the chakras, and help individuals reach a more harmonious state of well-being. Through sound therapy, one can vibrate at an optimal frequency, promoting health and inner peace.
In this unique chakra sound bath experience led by Phoenix Song, participants will engage in a holistic practice designed to align the body’s energy centers from the root to the crown. The session begins with an active chakra sound meditation, where participants use “bija mantras” to open their chakras, harnessing the healing power of their own voices and vibrations. Following this, the group will transition to a passive sound bath.
Phoenix begins with shamanic buffalo drumming, which connects the participants to lower bass frequencies, helping induce a theta brain wave state. This state brings about calmness, mental clarity, and enhanced creativity. The esraj, an emotionally evocative stringed instrument from India, will be played to target and open the second chakra. To break up energy blockages, Phoenix utilizes the didgeridoo, an instrument with deep, earthy tones rich in overtones, and plays it over the heart chakra.
The sound journey continues with the use of Native-style flutes, drone flutes, hand pans, Tibetan bowls, and bells to open and energize the higher chakras. Throughout the session, Phoenix integrates their voice, offering healing through Sanskrit mantras, spiritual prayers, shamanic chants, and angelic singing.
Participants often leave these sessions feeling deeply relaxed, renewed, and connected to their chakras, body, heart, mind, and soul. Many report sensations of lightness, as if they have released emotional or energetic blocks. Areas of tension or pain may loosen as energy flows freely through previously stagnant points, leaving the body tingling and vibrating with life force.
This workshop is open to individuals of all levels, from complete beginners to seasoned practitioners of sound healing. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, bring a yoga mat and a blanket or warm clothing. While some yoga props such as mats and blankets will be available for use, it is recommended to bring water for hydration.
Phoenix Song has been celebrated for their contributions to yoga music, with features in San Francisco Magazine’s Best of the Bay.
