Event Type
The Evolving Ground Bay Area local group gathers regularly at The Alembic to engage in shared meditation and delve into contemporary Vajrayana practices. These sessions begin with casual introductions, followed by a brief overview of opening awareness meditation. Participants then engage in a 20-minute seated meditation, take a short break, and continue with slow, mindful standing meditations. Another break leads into a second 20-minute seated session, and the event concludes with a period for questions, discussion, and reflection.
Opening awareness meditation, a core practice of Evolving Ground, offers a pathway to vividness and spacious clarity. Rooted in Dzogchen tradition, it is a modern adaptation of the shi-ne practice, known in Sanskrit as shamatha. This meditation cultivates an open state of awareness, helping individuals experience clarity and calm.
The movement practices draw from the Sky Realm Series (Nam’khor in Tibetan), which are unique to Evolving Ground. These Dzogchen long-de practices are similar in appearance to Qi Gong, yet they operate on a different principle. Through embodied awareness and the experience of “tsal”—a non-ordinary sensation of clarity and bliss—practitioners explore the nonduality of mind and body.
No previous experience is required to join. Participants are encouraged to ask questions, reflect on their experiences, and engage in group exploration of these meditative practices.
This event is offered free of charge.
