What Participants Can Expect
The workshop will provide a comprehensive introduction to the art of kimchi making, structured as follows:
- Introduction (10 minutes): A brief history of kimchi, exploring its cultural significance and variety.
- Demonstration (20 minutes): Participants will watch a demonstration on how to prep and brine vegetables and create the kimchi sauce.
- Hands-On Experience (15 minutes): Attendees will get hands-on experience, chopping and salting vegetables under guidance.
- Kimchi Making (15 minutes): Participants will learn to prepare the kimchi paste, combine all the ingredients, and pack their creations into jars to take home.
- Q&A Session (10 minutes): An open forum for any questions regarding the process or kimchi itself.
What Attendees Will Receive
At the end of the workshop, participants will take home a mason jar filled with their homemade kimchi. Additionally, they will enjoy tastings of various kimchi dishes and light snacks throughout the session, with all supplies and ingredients provided.
Dietary Information
- Vegetarian-Friendly: The kimchi contains fish and shrimp sauce; however, it is suitable for vegetarians comfortable with fish-based products, though not vegan.
- Allergy Caution: The recipe includes garlic and onions, which may pose allergies for some attendees. Participants can request adjustments in advance to accommodate dietary needs.
Conclusion of the Workshop
To conclude the event, attendees will enjoy a kimchi tasting along with delicious kimchi pancakes and refreshing rice wine (makgeolli).
