Ancestral or intergenerational trauma is gaining increasing recognition as awareness of hidden wounds and cultural biases rises in modern discourse. Journalist and memoirist Seth Lorinczi embarked on a personal exploration of his own family’s secrets and traumas, a journey that led him into the depths of underground psychedelic therapy. What began as an investigation evolved into a terrifying, yet transformative, descent into the shadows—one that would open up deeper layers of understanding and healing.
Building upon themes explored in his recent book, Death Trip: A Post-Holocaust Psychedelic Memoir, Lorinczi returns to The Alembic to delve into provocative topics surrounding ancestral trauma. These include the absence of cultural initiation in Western society, the diminishing connection to one’s lineage, and the power of nonlinear modes of self-exploration, such as creative writing, dreamwork, and psychedelic journeying. Drawing from his own experience, Lorinczi offers a candid and evocative exploration of the inner realms that many of us avoid, but that hold the key to understanding our familial and personal histories.
This event promises to be a powerful and liberating experience, where attendees can explore the hidden facets of family, identity, and the self, often buried under layers of ancestral pain. Be prepared to engage with emotionally charged storytelling that not only reveals Lorinczi’s journey but also invites participants to reflect on their own histories and the ways ancestral trauma may shape them. Expect to leave with new insights into the often invisible threads connecting us to our past.
About Death Trip: A Post-Holocaust Psychedelic Memoir:
Paul Levy, author of Undreaming Wetiko and The Quantum Revelation, calls Lorinczi’s book, “A very unique, courageous, and deeply moving work. I have personally never seen anything else like it…. It’s a journey through our individual and collective trauma in order to find the hidden treasure enfolded within the darkness—our creative self.”
Seth Lorinczi’s writing has been featured in The Guardian, DoubleBlind, Narratively, Portland Monthly, and various anthologies. Death Trip is his first book and has been presented at Yale University, UC Berkeley, the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education, and other cultural and literary venues. Lorinczi is also a co-founder of “Judaism & The Psychedelic Renaissance,” a pioneering live event in Portland, Oregon, exploring the intersection of Judaism and psychedelic healing practices.
