The “Queer & Well TIGNC Resilience Flow – A Decolonized Yoga Class 2” is a yoga session designed to serve the trans, intersex, and gender nonconforming (TIGNC) communities, with particular emphasis on centering QTBIPOC (Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) individuals. Led by a nonbinary instructor, the class draws upon ancient yogic teachings, particularly those of Patanjali, the historical archivist behind the Yoga Sutras, which highlight the mental focus of yoga. The Resilience Flow series integrates these philosophies, utilizing sacred practices to help participants process emotions, release stress, and detoxify their physical, mental, and spiritual selves.
The essence of decolonized yoga, as practiced in Resilience Flow, lies in its mindful connection to the natural cycles of life, embracing what is present. The class invites participants to reflect on the balance between life’s dualities: recognizing that grief is intertwined with love, creativity coexists with the fear of change, and stress is a natural part of existence. Through the practice, students learn to guide their bodies back to states of peace, rest, and calm amid life’s inevitable challenges.
Sola Habibi, the facilitator, is a nonbinary, neurodivergent, and multi-heritage queer individual who creates healing spaces through a combination of yoga, community-building, art, and connection to nature. With over 13 years of yoga experience and a 200-hour yoga teacher certification obtained in 2023 from Oceanic Yoga in Goa, India, Sola is dedicated to fostering inclusive environments. Their approach centers on helping BIPOC, queer, trans, and gender nonconforming individuals find support and community as they navigate difficult emotions. Each class incorporates a blend of discussions, movement, meditation, breathwork, and chanting, offering a holistic healing experience.
