11 Ways to Have Fun Without the Pub on St. Patrick’s Days

Let’s be honest, pub crawls are not for everyone. So we’ve compiled a list of festivities to join in the fun that, contrary to feeling dehydrated and hung-over; will leave you feeling rejuvenated. Sign up to learn something new, meet like-minded folks, and improve your well-being. Whatever you decide, we hope it’s lucky and brings you a pot of figurative) gold! 

1. Let’s Play Padel! 

If you haven’t heard, Padel is the newest fun sport to hit American shores, and Bay Padel on Treasure Island is open for business with a second location in Dogpatch coming soon. Imagine a sport that feels like a love child between Tennis and Squash, and you’ve got Padel. Played usually in doubles, the court feels intimate, a third of a tennis court’s size, enclosed with metallic mesh and walls of clear glass. Unlike tennis, where strength and technique can dominate, Padel is an even playing field.

This vibrant indoor club also offers Pickleball as well as Spec Tennis. Bay Padel is open 6 am-9 pm seven days a week and you can book a private lesson or court time. But on St. Patrick’s Day, Sunday, March 17th, Bay Padel’s Coach Marcel is hosting a Beginner’s Padel Clinic from 1:00-2:30 pm for those who want to learn how to play. The price is $55 for members and $70 for non-members. 

2. Take an Urban Hike through San Francisco.

Urban Hiker schedules private and group hiking tours through the city of San Francisco. Expect to walk 4-5 miles over 2-3 hours and learn little-known facts about what makes San Francisco unique. Costs start at $54 per person. 

3. Need more trees and greenery?

 Join The Urban and Bay Hikers on Sunday 3/17 for an intermediate-level, 6.5-mile loop hike at Brush Peak in Livermore, CA. This hike through Brushy Peak Regional Reserve offers panoramic views of the Bay Area. They will meet at 10:30 am and the total hike will take approximately 2-3 hours. This hike is for fit adults only. 

4. Join Pacifica Runners

Join Pacifica Runners for their coastal St. Patrick’s Day 5K! This could be fun and fitness for the whole family. Pre-register (Non-members: $40 Adult/$20 child) here and meet at the North Parking Lot of Rockaway Beach in Pacifica for the 8:00 am sign-in. The race starts at 9:00 am and you will be treated to coastal views, goodie bags for kids, and an entry to win one of many raffle prizes. 

5. Ride with SF Cycling Clud

Go for a bike ride with SF Cycling Club. Every Friday, including Friday 3/15, they offer an open-to-public morning spin around the city which ends with coffee at The Mill. 

Once you’re a member, you have access to a multitude of rides almost every day of the week. The ride starts early at 6:15 am, and the meeting point is on the corner of Fell and Baker. Bring your bike and make sure all participants are 18 or over. 

6. Beginners Cycling Event

If you’re just a beginner cyclist or need to brush up on some skills before hitting the streets of SF, check out the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition’s list of events. March 16th, they will host a free event for adult beginners from 10:00 am-1:00 pm at Monroe Elementary School!

This is a great class for those who are looking to get more comfortable balancing, pedaling, turning, and shifting gears before they head out onto the streets. 

7. Learn How to Salsa/Bachata!!

 Inessence offers many Salsa and Bachata events throughout the week. But, this St. Patrick’s Day,  Sunday, March 17th, Inessence presents a Beginner-friendly Salsa class from 7:00-8:00 pm and Bachata from 8:00-9:00 pm. Doors open at 6:50 and after the lessons you have a chance to practice your new skills with social dancing on either the indoor dance floor or outdoor patio from 9:00-12:45 am. 

The location is the San Francisco famous Cigar Bar (850 Montgomery Street) but Sundays are smoke-free!  Tickets are available for presale ($15 in advance online or $25 at the door) and advance purchase is highly recommended!  21+ only please!

9. Take a Fermentation Class! 

We’ve all heard by now the benefits organisms found in fermented foods have on our gut microbiomes, now you can learn how to make your own! Preserved is a culinary shop in Oakland that is focused on traditional methods of preserving and fermenting.

They aspire to be a community resource, empowering and inspiring a greater connection to your food and one way they do so is by offering hands-on workshop experiences. From pickling and fermenting to making marmalade and bitters, there are classes for everyone! 

10. Well-Being Fair at Mukunda Studio

Well-Being Fair at Mukunda Studio (1250 Folsom St. SF) On 3/16, this 4-hour fair is a collaboration between Mukunda Studio and TendWell Collective where they gather a diverse team of practitioners who are teachers, coaches, therapists, artists and more to come together, share their wisdom and practices.

You can expect a day filled with small group workshops, conversation circles, interactive 1:1 sessions with practitioners, vegan snacks and drinks, and an opportunity to explore a wide range of health and wellness-centered experiences.

11. Ayurveda Mela Fair

The California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine (CAAM) is super excited to bring this ancient wisdom to you in a fun and enjoyable version that is completely free of charge. Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old science that is the manual of life and is still valid to date even with new emerging conditions.

The principles (both preventative and treatment) given in this science are truly powerful and can be applied to any given scenario to date. They will have multiple stalls that showcase different aspects of Ayurveda (Pulse diagnosis, Facial massage, Ayurvedic diet). Learn how to have fun while staying healthy!
